About Democratic Newcastle
Welcome to Democratic Newcastle
Democratic Newcastle is our city's digital commons - a platform where residents come together to discuss local issues, propose solutions, and shape Newcastle's future.
What Is This?
This is not a council website. It's not a petition site. It's a space for genuine democratic participation where Newcastle residents:
- Discuss local issues that matter to you
- Propose solutions and improvements
- Debate different approaches
- Decide on community priorities
- Organize collective action
How It Works
Participatory Processes are time-bound initiatives with specific goals - like allocating community budget, planning transport infrastructure, or influencing a housing development. They have clear phases: propose, discuss, decide, implement.
Assemblies are ongoing spaces for particular topics or neighborhoods. Join the conversation in your area or on issues you care about.
Who Runs This?
Democratic Newcastle is an independent community platform, part of the wider Participate UK movement for democratic reform. It's run by Newcastle residents, for Newcastle residents.
We work with Newcastle City Council when appropriate, but we're not controlled by them. This is genuinely community-led.
Your Voice Matters
Too often, "consultation" means the council has already decided and just wants to tick a box. Here, your participation genuinely shapes outcomes. When we say community budget, we mean you decide. When we say shape the transport plan, we mean your proposals go forward.
Join thousands of your neighbors in building a Newcastle that works for all of us.
